Applewood Centers Inc. prides itself in being an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral internship site since 1999. In our time as an approved site we have also expanded education programming to include practicums and Postdoctoral Fellowships.
Our practicum program offers students the opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Practicum students participate in assessments, interventions, and consultation for a variety of clients. This program provides a supportive and collaborative environment where students can learn from experienced professionals.
Please note: The practicum program is designed for students enrolled in a doctorate program in psychology and application details are available on our website. (Link to Practicum Information Page)
Doctoral interns provide individual and family therapy as well as psychodiagnostic assessment to children and adolescents with a broad range of diagnoses.
Doctoral interns are integrated with Applewood's Office-Based Department and serve on multidisciplinary teams, working closely with psychiatrists, counselors, and other individuals who advocate for clients and their families. The Doctoral Internship program aims to develop interns’ competencies in individual/cultural diversity, as the internship program is committed to valuing cultural differences.
Applewood strives to provide an internship that is safe and welcoming, as the Doctoral Internship program values trainees from diverse backgrounds. The program strongly encourages applicants from diverse cultural backgrounds and APA Minority fellows to apply to our program. In addition to competency in individual/cultural differences, the Doctoral Internship program trains doctoral level students to develop and demonstrate profession-wide competencies such as ethical and legal standards, assessment, supervision, consultation, etc. that are essential to the delivery of psychological services. For more information, please see our program brochure for more information about the specific competencies.
